A bike saddle bag is a small bag that can be attached to the saddle of a bike and is a convenient place to store small items while you ride. Here are a few items you might consider carrying in your saddle bag:
- Spare tube: In case you get a flat tire, it’s a good idea to carry a spare inner tube with you.
- Tire levers: These can be used to remove the tire from the rim in order to fix a flat.
- Multi-tool: A small, multi-purpose tool with a variety of hex wrenches, screwdrivers, and other tools can be useful for making small adjustments or repairs on the go.
- Patch kit: A patch kit includes patches and glue that can be used to repair a punctured inner tube.
- Pump: A mini-pump can be used to inflate your tires if they get low while you’re out on a ride.
- Snacks: If you have room pack an emergency energy bar or other portable snack.
- First aid kit: A small first aid kit with band-aids, gauze, and other basic supplies can be useful in case of minor injuries.
- Cash: You’d be surprised how often you might need a few bucks on a ride, especially a long ride.
- Meds: I’m prone to migraines so I like to carry Advil or other pain killers. After a rather painful wasp sting a while bag that also caused my lips and leg to swell up I started to include some Benadryl pills.
It’s a good idea to customize the items you carry in your saddle bag based on your personal needs and the type of rides you do.
